Challenge of Colour Blog Hop Reveal :)

Welcome to the Challenge of Colour* Blog Hop!

*Edit, now with new and improved photo!*

So today is the big day!  I had planned to write a proper post a bit later after work - I didn't finish my piece until late last night so I haven't had a chance to write up properly!  But looking through the list quite a few peeps have their pieces up already, so I'm going to do I half post just so anyone who pops through won't think I'm a git :)

I'm a little nervous about this - I have never done anything like it before!

As you may know we challenge participants are given two colour palettes to chose from, which were put together by the lovely Brandi of BrandiGirlBlog, using satellite photos of our little planet from Earth As Art.  Of the two I was given I chose to use the image on the Demini River, it is my absolute favourite colour combination ever!  Purple and lime green, om nom!  I know perhaps I should have gone for the more challenging palette, but as doing a hop like this is completely new to me, I thought I had best play it safe for now.

The Demini River is a tributary of the mighty Amazon in Brazil.
I was very lucky to have brought the perfect bracelet bar from Bo Hulley Beads just before I got the palettes through, must be fate!  I teamed it with amethyst, iolite, peridot and burgundy swaros to pick up the colours in the palette, add some pretty copper bead caps, a couple of dangles and tada!

Bo Hulley's focal was such a joy to work with, it is the first hand made component I ever brought :)

Another view, I'm really happy with how the dangles turned out - was much hmm-ing and ha-ing over those.
I'm so ridiculously proud of my creation, I've never tried to complete a design like this, and it gave me a few headaches along the way!  A bit of a learning curve but definitely worth it :)  I have been pretty nervous about today, I know some of the artisans joining in make some astounding jewellery.

Now please do visit the other participating blogs, I'm sure there are some absolute stunners waiting to be gawked at.  Hop away, and as Erin would say, Enjoy the Day!

  7. Such a pretty focal, and lovely dangles. Great work.
I had the Demini River palette as well, but I think it gave me more pause at first. You are right that the perfect art bead just helps so much to get a challenge started. Andrea

    1. Thanks Andrea, yes art beads really do help designs evolve around them. Haven't really used them before, I can forsee them becoming an addiction!

    2. Yes, bead addiction is real. Have fun with it.

    1. Hahaha, yeah ridiculous job! There was a ridiculous amount of snipping and re-doing and banging-head-on-a-walling! Glad you really like it :)

  9. Ohh, if you've never worked with art beads before, prepare yourself for a new addiction! Would it be inappropriate to your budget if I suggest starting with lampwork boros? They are my absolute favorite kind of art bead. :)

What I love about your piece is how you made it your own - I can definitely see the connection to the palette, but I love the dangles and charms! Well done, and thanks for playing along!

    1. Hi Brandi, thanks so much for providing the spectacular palettes. Wouldn't have made this without your help!

Yes boro beads are spectacular, perhaps a little outside my budget, but hey Christmas is coming up and I've been dropping some heavt hints... Besides that, a girls gotta treat herself sometimes, right? ;)

  20. You definitely didn't have to worry one bit! Your bracelet is pretty incredible :) I really enjoy that handmade focal piece and the little dangles!

I remember when I did my first hop not too long ago and I was pretty nervous, too! Okay, I was downright scared. LOL

Now that you have the experience though, hopefully you'll be joining in on more hops in the future :)

  22. What a wonderful bracelet, you could be proud of yourself because you did a great job. I love!!! Wonderful palette colour.

  23. You have created a beautiful bracelet you will be proud to wear or give as a gift (or sell, if you do that also!) I agree with commentors who mention the potential for addiction vis-à-vis art beads; but fear not, it can be dealt with in a reasoned manner without having to re-mortgage your home, Jess. So much variety of materièl and price, there is something for every taste and budget, and of course being able to buy from artisans in your own community or country doubles the pleasure. Welcome to the wonderful world of handmade!

I would love to follow your blog, Jess. Are you planning on adding a "Google Friend Connect" gadget on your blog page in future?

I chuckled over your "excess vowel" comment: as a Canadian, I utilise/utilize some American spellings, but primarily British ones. As a native speaker of French, I am often stopped in my tracks by the similarities to that language as well LOL.

  24. Congratulations Miss Jess! You did it! I am very proud of you for not only jumping into a brand new experience but completing this lovely bracelet! What a trophy that must be! I think that it is serendipity that you had the lovely Miss Bo's pretty connector. I have a sneaking suspicion that this will not be your last handmade component! The colors you selected really work well with the palette. Now that you have one Challenge/Blog hop under your talented belt, I hope you will consider joining me again (and other challenges as well, like the Art Bead Scene!) and maybe next time putting a little extra challenge to it! ;-) I am not surprised to see your name in this list! Enjoy the day! Erin

  29. What a wonderful bracelet and post you created here. Congrats on taking the jump and sharing your talents! What I love about artisan beads is you take just one, like this perfect bracelet bar and pair it with all sorts of delicious beads as you have done and no one else is likely to come up with that same mix of elements. Your artistry combined with Bo's, just beautiful
